Big Sandy Creek (Village Creek tributary)
Big Sandy Creek is a stream located in southeast Texas, and is a tributary of Village Creek. The creek flows generally southeast through Hardin County. It is primarily a blackwater stream, characterized by darkly stained water due to tannins from decaying organic matter, typical of the Piney Woods region of East Texas.
The creek is known for its slow-moving current and heavily wooded banks, supporting a diverse ecosystem. Its watershed is primarily forested, with some agricultural and rural residential land use.
Big Sandy Creek joins Village Creek, which ultimately flows into the Neches River, and then into Sabine Lake, a tidal estuary that empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The creek plays a role in the local hydrology and drainage patterns of the region.
