Bekasi
Bekasi is a city located in West Java, Indonesia, forming part of the Jakarta metropolitan area (Jabodetabek). It lies on the eastern border of Jakarta and serves as a major urban area and a significant industrial and residential hub.
Bekasi is bordered by Jakarta to the west, Bogor Regency to the south, and Karawang Regency to the east. It is geographically situated on a relatively flat plain.
The city is characterized by its rapid urbanization and population growth, largely driven by its proximity to Jakarta and its role as a major manufacturing center. Bekasi is home to numerous industrial estates housing factories producing a wide range of goods, including automotive parts, electronics, textiles, and food products. This has attracted a large influx of workers, leading to a diverse population.
Bekasi's history is intertwined with that of the surrounding region, dating back to the era of the Tarumanagara Kingdom. Over time, the area evolved into a significant agricultural area before its transformation into a modern industrial city.
The administration of Bekasi is divided into several districts (kecamatan), which are further subdivided into sub-districts (kelurahan). The city is governed by a mayor (walikota).
Bekasi faces several challenges common to rapidly growing urban areas, including traffic congestion, pollution, waste management, and the provision of adequate infrastructure and public services. Efforts are ongoing to address these challenges and improve the quality of life for its residents.
