Bayuly

Bayuly is one of the three major zhuzes (hordes or tribal confederations) that historically comprised the Kazakhs. The other two zhuzes are the Senior Zhuz (Uly Zhuz) and the Middle Zhuz (Orta Zhuz). The Bayuly Zhuz, also known as the Lesser Zhuz or Junior Zhuz, was located primarily in western Kazakhstan, along the lower reaches of the Syr Darya River, the Emba River, and along the Ural River.

The Bayuly Zhuz was made up of numerous tribes, some of the most significant including the Alimuly, Baiuly, and Zhetyru tribes. These tribes historically played a prominent role in the political and military landscape of the Kazakh Steppe.

The Bayuly Zhuz was often involved in conflicts with neighboring groups, including the Kalmyks, and played a crucial role in resisting various imperial powers throughout its history. Its composition and territorial boundaries shifted over time due to migrations, warfare, and political realignments. Understanding the Bayuly Zhuz is essential for grasping the complexities of Kazakh history and the social structure of the Kazakh people. The term "Bayuly" itself signifies a branch or a part, reflecting its position within the larger Kazakh tribal system.
