Batsoà

Batsoà (also sometimes spelled Batsowa or Bats'wa) is a derogatory Afrikaans slang term used to describe a Black person. It carries heavily racist and dehumanizing connotations. The term is generally considered extremely offensive and its use is strongly condemned. Its precise etymology is debated, but it is believed to be derived from a combination of factors, including associations with animalistic characteristics and a historical context of racial oppression under Apartheid in South Africa. The word's power to inflict pain and perpetrate discrimination lies in its history as a tool of systemic racism. Its use continues to contribute to racial tensions and inequality.
