Bassishaw
Bassishaw is a ward in the City of London, the historic and financial center of London. It is one of the City's 25 wards and is relatively small in both area and population.
The ward's name is believed to derive from the family of Basset (or Bassishaw), who held land in the area during the medieval period.
Historically, Bassishaw was known for its involvement in the wool trade. Today, like much of the City of London, it is primarily characterized by commercial and financial activity. The ward is home to a variety of businesses, including offices and financial institutions.
Bassishaw Ward is governed by an Alderman and Common Councilmen, who are elected by the ward's voters. They are responsible for representing the ward's interests in the City of London Corporation, which is the local authority for the City.
Due to its small size and predominantly commercial nature, Bassishaw has a very small resident population. Its significance lies more in its contribution to the City of London's overall economic and administrative function.
