Apple IIc

The Apple IIc was the fourth model in the Apple II series of personal computers, first released in April 1984. Unlike its predecessors, the Apple IIc was designed as a portable unit, though it lacked a built-in display and battery. It was intended to be a more user-friendly and compact alternative to the Apple IIe, targeting home and educational markets.

The "c" in its name stood for "compact," reflecting its smaller footprint compared to the IIe. The Apple IIc featured a built-in 5.25-inch floppy disk drive and a keyboard. It incorporated many features that required separate expansion cards on earlier models, such as serial ports for connecting peripherals like printers and modems.

Internally, the Apple IIc was largely compatible with the Apple IIe, running most of the same software. However, its closed architecture, lacking internal expansion slots, limited hardware upgrades and customization compared to other Apple II models. The Apple IIc was discontinued in August 1988.
