Adam & Eve (duo)

In Judeo-Christian tradition, Adam and Eve are the first man and woman, created by God and the central figures in the narrative of the Fall from Grace. Their story is primarily found in the Book of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament).

Adam, formed from dust, was placed in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it. Realizing Adam's solitude, God created Eve from Adam's rib to be his companion. They lived in innocence and harmony with God and nature, free from shame and death, subsisting on the bounty of the Garden and only forbidden from eating the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

The serpent, often identified with Satan, tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, promising her that she would become like God, knowing good and evil. Eve succumbed to temptation and shared the fruit with Adam. Upon eating the fruit, they gained knowledge of good and evil, recognized their nakedness, and felt shame.

This act of disobedience resulted in their expulsion from the Garden of Eden and the introduction of sin and mortality into the world. As punishment, Adam was condemned to toil the land for his sustenance, and Eve was cursed with pain in childbirth and subjugation to her husband.

The story of Adam and Eve is a foundational narrative in Abrahamic religions, explaining the origins of humanity, sin, suffering, and the relationship between God and humanity. Interpretations of their story vary widely, ranging from literal readings to symbolic interpretations focusing on human nature, free will, and moral responsibility. They are frequently referenced in literature, art, and popular culture as archetypal figures representing humanity's beginnings and the loss of innocence.
