Abercarn
Abercarn is a town and community located in the Caerphilly County Borough, Wales. Situated in the Sirhowy Valley, it lies approximately 6 miles (10 km) north of Newport. Historically part of Monmouthshire, it became part of Gwent in 1974, and then Caerphilly County Borough in 1996.
Abercarn's development was closely tied to the coal mining industry that flourished in the South Wales valleys during the 19th and 20th centuries. Several collieries operated in the area, providing employment for generations. The closure of these mines in the latter half of the 20th century significantly impacted the local economy.
The town features a range of amenities, including schools, shops, and community facilities. Abercarn is also surrounded by scenic countryside, offering opportunities for outdoor recreation. Transportation links include road connections to nearby towns and cities.
