4th Cavalry Division (German Empire)
The 4th Cavalry Division was a cavalry division of the Imperial German Army during World War I. It was formed in August 1914 as part of the initial mobilization. The division was primarily deployed on the Eastern Front, where it participated in numerous battles and campaigns against the Russian Empire.
Throughout the war, the 4th Cavalry Division was engaged in reconnaissance, screening operations, and mobile warfare, typical roles for cavalry units at the time. It participated in the initial German advance into Russia, as well as subsequent battles and offensives. As the war progressed and the Eastern Front stabilized, the role of cavalry diminished in importance, and the division likely saw a decrease in its overall combat effectiveness.
The division was eventually demobilized following the armistice in November 1918 and the subsequent end of World War I. The exact details of its composition and specific engagements can be found in various German military archives and historical records pertaining to the Eastern Front.
