20th Armoured Brigade Combat Team (United Kingdom)

The 20th Armoured Brigade Combat Team (20 BCT) is a formation of the British Army. Previously designated the 20th Armoured Brigade, it was re-designated as a Brigade Combat Team in line with the Future Soldier modernization program.

Historically, the 20th Armoured Brigade has served in numerous conflicts and deployments since its formation during the Second World War. It has been involved in operations in Northwest Europe, the Balkans, Iraq (Operation Telic), and Afghanistan (Operation Herrick). The brigade has undergone several restructuring phases throughout its history, reflecting changes in the British Army's strategic priorities and equipment.

As a Brigade Combat Team, 20 BCT is designed to be a self-contained, deployable force capable of conducting a range of operations. It typically comprises a mix of armoured, infantry, artillery, engineer, and support units. The precise composition of the BCT may vary depending on its specific role and the operational environment.

The current role of 20 BCT focuses on being a warfighting division-aligned Brigade Combat Team. This means it is held at high readiness for contingency operations and is designed to work as part of a larger division-level force. It is a key component of the British Army's deployable land forces, ready to respond to crises and contribute to the UK's defense commitments around the world.

The brigade is based in Bulford Camp on Salisbury Plain.
