116th Street station (Second Avenue Subway)
The 116th Street station is a station on the IND Second Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. It is located under Second Avenue, spanning the blocks between 116th Street and 117th Street, in East Harlem, Manhattan. The station is served by the Q train at all times and the N train during late nights.
The station has two side platforms and four tracks. The two center tracks are for express service, though they are not currently in use. As with the other stations on the first phase of the Second Avenue Subway, the 116th Street station is fully ADA-accessible, featuring elevators connecting the platforms to the mezzanine and street level. The station also includes climate-control systems and platform screen doors for increased safety and efficiency.
The station's artwork, titled "Paz" by Puerto Rican artist Leo Villareal, consists of illuminated glass panels depicting abstract patterns and colors intended to reflect the vibrant culture of the surrounding East Harlem neighborhood. Construction of the station began in 2007 as part of the first phase of the Second Avenue Subway project and opened to the public on January 1, 2017.
