Đàn môi

The đàn môi (literally "lip instrument" in Vietnamese) is a traditional Vietnamese jaw harp. It is a lamellophone instrument, typically made of brass or other metals, although bamboo versions also exist. The đàn môi is held against the lips and the metal tongue (lamella) is plucked with a finger to produce a buzzing sound. The player's mouth acts as a resonating chamber, and the pitch and timbre of the sound can be altered by changing the shape of the mouth and vocal cavity, similar to the jew's harp found in other cultures. The đàn môi is often used in traditional Vietnamese music and folk music, particularly among ethnic minority groups in mountainous regions. Different sizes and shapes of đàn môi exist, impacting the range and tone of the instrument. Its portability and unique sound have made it a popular instrument throughout Vietnam.
