Youmacon

Youmacon is an annual four-day anime convention held in Detroit, Michigan, typically during the late October/early November timeframe. The convention's name is a portmanteau of "Youma," a Japanese word referring to supernatural creatures, and "convention." Youmacon focuses on Japanese animation (anime), Japanese manga (comics), and Japanese video games.

History:

Youmacon was first held in 2005 and has grown substantially since its inception. Initially located at the Novi Expo Center, the convention later expanded to include the Renaissance Center (GM Renaissance Center), specifically the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center and the adjoining TCF Center (formerly Cobo Center). The expansion allows for a greater variety of events and vendors, as well as increased attendance.

Activities and Events:

Youmacon offers a wide range of activities and events for attendees, including:

• Cosplay: A major focus, with attendees dressing up as characters from anime, manga, video games, and other aspects of popular culture. Youmacon features cosplay contests, gatherings, and dedicated spaces for cosplayers.
• Panels and Workshops: Covering a variety of topics related to anime, manga, gaming, and Japanese culture. Industry professionals, voice actors, and experienced fans often host these sessions.
• Artist Alley: A space for artists to showcase and sell their original artwork, prints, and crafts.
