Taw Phaya

Taw Phaya (Burmese: တော်ဘုရား, pronounced [tɔ̀ pʰəjá]) is a Burmese royal title historically used for princes of the blood, specifically sons of a reigning monarch. The title denotes royal status and lineage. While the specific privileges and responsibilities associated with the title varied depending on the reign and the individual Taw Phaya, they generally held positions of influence within the royal court and were potential candidates for succession to the throne. The title often carried with it land grants, revenue streams, and military command opportunities. Its use declined with the end of the Burmese monarchy in 1885.
