Yeovilton
Yeovilton is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated on the River Yeo, 7 miles (11 km) north of Yeovil. It falls within the South Somerset district.
Yeovilton is best known as the home of RNAS Yeovilton (HMS Heron), a Royal Naval Air Station. The air station is one of the largest and busiest military airfields in the UK and is home to a number of Fleet Air Arm squadrons, operating various types of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
The area surrounding Yeovilton is largely agricultural. The village itself contains a mix of housing, including accommodation for naval personnel. Local amenities include a primary school, a pub, and village hall.
Historically, Yeovilton's economy was closely tied to agriculture. The establishment of RNAS Yeovilton in the 1940s significantly altered the local economy and demography. The air station remains a major employer in the area.
The civil parish of Yeovilton has a relatively small population, reflecting its rural setting. It is governed by a parish council which oversees local matters.
