Willie Murphy (musician)

Willie Murphy (1943 – 2019) was an American pianist, singer, songwriter, and producer, primarily known for his work in blues, rock and roll, and R&B. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he was a central figure in the Twin Cities music scene for over five decades.

Murphy co-founded the blues band Willie and the Bees in the 1970s, achieving regional and national recognition. Prior to that, he played with the band Tony And His Mouse Traps. He also released several solo albums, including "Willie the Poor Boy" (1982) and "Running, Jumping, Standing Still" (1995), showcasing his distinctive vocals and piano playing.

Beyond his performing career, Murphy was a highly sought-after producer, working with a diverse range of artists, including Bonnie Raitt, John Koerner, and Soul Asylum. His production style was characterized by its raw, authentic feel, capturing the energy of live performance.
