William Scott (jockey)
William Scott (1797 – 1848) was a prominent English jockey during the first half of the 19th century. He was particularly known for his partnership with trainer John Scott (no relation), whose stable at Whitewall Corner produced numerous Classic winners. Scott rode four winners of the Epsom Derby, four winners of the St. Leger Stakes, and four winners of the 2,000 Guineas Stakes. He was considered one of the leading jockeys of his era, noted for his strength, tactical awareness, and ability to judge pace. Some of his most famous victories came aboard horses such as Memnon, St. Giles, and Don John. He retired from racing in 1846.
