Varunan

Varunan is a name primarily found in Indian Hindu mythology, often associated with the deity Varuna.

Varuna is a significant Vedic deity, often described as the god of the sky, water, and the celestial ocean, as well as the guardian of cosmic order and righteousness (Rta). He is frequently mentioned alongside Mitra in the Vedas.

In some traditions, Varuna is considered the supreme deity, upholding universal law and punishing sin. He possesses the power to bind and release, often using ropes or snares (pasa) to capture wrongdoers. He is also associated with knowledge and insight, often seen as an all-seeing observer of human actions.

Over time, the prominence of Varuna diminished as other deities like Indra and Vishnu gained greater importance in the Hindu pantheon. In later Hindu mythology, Varuna is often depicted as the god of the oceans and aquatic life, residing in the celestial ocean and riding a Makara (a mythical sea creature). He remains an important guardian of the west direction (Dikpala).
