Vähäkyrö
Vähäkyrö is a former municipality of Finland. It was located in the province of Western Finland and was part of the Ostrobothnia region.
History:
Vähäkyrö was an independent municipality until January 1, 2013, when it was merged with the city of Vaasa. The decision to merge was made by the municipal councils of both entities following discussions and negotiations.
Geography:
Vähäkyrö is situated approximately 15 kilometers southeast of Vaasa. Its landscape is characterized by agricultural fields and forests, typical of the Ostrobothnia region. The Kyrönjoki river flows through the area.
Economy:
Agriculture and forestry have historically been important sectors in Vähäkyrö's economy. There are also a number of small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the area. After merging with Vaasa, its economic activities are increasingly integrated with the larger city.
Demographics:
Prior to the merger, Vähäkyrö had a population of around 4,700 inhabitants. The municipality was predominantly Finnish-speaking.
Culture:
Vähäkyrö had its own local identity and traditions, including its own dialect and customs. The area features several historical buildings and sites that reflect its past.
