USS Tattnall (DDG-19)

The USS Tattnall (DDG-19) was a Charles F. Adams-class guided missile destroyer in the United States Navy. Named for Commodore Josiah Tattnall, the ship served from 1961 to 1995.

History:

USS Tattnall was laid down by the Bath Iron Works Corporation, Bath, Maine on 2 March 1960; launched on 6 May 1961; sponsored by Mrs. Marguerite Tattnall Farmer, great-granddaughter of Commodore Tattnall; and commissioned on 13 October 1961 at Boston Naval Shipyard, Commander T. J. Moriarty in command.

Service:

Throughout her career, USS Tattnall primarily served in the Atlantic Fleet. She participated in numerous exercises and deployments, including operations in the Mediterranean Sea and the Caribbean. The ship played a role in various Cold War-era naval operations, including surveillance and presence missions. Notable activities included deployments with carrier battle groups and participation in naval exercises with NATO allies.

Decommissioning and Disposal:

USS Tattnall was decommissioned on 31 March 1995 and struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 11 January 1996. She was sold for scrap in 2005.
