Treene (river)
The Treene is a river in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is a right tributary of the Eider river. The Treene is approximately 95 kilometers (59 miles) long.
The river's source is near Wallsbüll, in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg. From there, it flows generally southwards, passing through or near towns such as Treia, Schwabstedt, and Friedrichstadt, before joining the Eider River near Friedrichstadt.
The Treene valley is known for its marshlands and meadows, which are important habitats for various bird species and other wildlife. The river itself is used for recreational activities such as canoeing and kayaking. The Treene also plays a role in the drainage of the surrounding agricultural land. Historically, the Treene served as a transport route, albeit a relatively minor one, compared to the Eider.
