Travelers (TV series)
Travelers is a science fiction television series created by Brad Wright, starring Eric McCormack, Mackenzie Porter, Jared Abrahamson, Nesta Cooper, Reilly Dolman, and Patrick Gilmore. The series is a Canadian-American co-production, primarily filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, and produced by Peacock Alley Entertainment.
The series premiered on Showcase in Canada on October 17, 2016, and worldwide on Netflix starting December 23, 2016. It ran for three seasons, concluding on December 14, 2018.
The premise of Travelers revolves around operatives from the future who travel back in time into the bodies of people in the 21st century just before they die, in order to prevent the collapse of society. These "travelers" must live the lives of their hosts and carry out missions dictated by the Director, a powerful artificial intelligence from the future. The missions are designed to alter the timeline and avert the dystopian future from which they came.
Each traveler team consists of a leader, medical officer, tactician, engineer, and historian, all possessing specialized skills necessary to fulfill their objectives. They communicate with the Director through the Quantum Frame, a method that allows them to receive instructions and updates. Maintaining their cover and following the Director's protocols while navigating the complexities of human relationships and moral dilemmas are central themes of the show.
The series explores themes of technology, ethics, free will versus determinism, and the consequences of altering the past.
