Translink is the brand name for the public transport provider in Northern Ireland. It operates bus and rail services throughout the region.

Overview

Translink was formed in 1995, evolving from the previous Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company (NITHC), which managed Ulsterbus and Northern Ireland Railways (NIR). Translink integrates bus and rail services under a single brand and management structure. It is a public corporation that is owned by the Department for Infrastructure.

Services

Translink provides a range of passenger transport services, including:

• Ulsterbus: Operates the main bus network throughout Northern Ireland, connecting towns and cities. Includes local, rural, and express services.
• Metro: Operates the urban bus network within the city of Belfast.
• NI Railways (NIR): Operates the passenger railway network connecting Belfast with other major towns and cities in Northern Ireland, as well as cross-border services to Dublin.
• Goldline Express: Operates a network of express coach services linking major cities and towns throughout Northern Ireland and to the Republic of Ireland.

Ticketing and Fares

Translink offers a variety of ticketing options, including single tickets, day tickets, weekly tickets, and monthly tickets. Smartcards, known as Translink smartpasses, are also available for regular commuters. Contactless payments are increasingly accepted on buses and at train stations.
