Toym Imao

Toym Imao (born Abdulmari Imao Jr.) is a Filipino sculptor, designer, filmmaker, and cultural worker. He is known for his large-scale public art installations, often incorporating themes of peace, history, and cultural heritage.

Imao is the son of National Artist Abdulmari Asia Imao. He earned a degree in architecture from the University of the Philippines Diliman. He furthered his education at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, USA, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture.

His artistic practice spans various mediums, including sculpture, film, and set design. His sculptures often feature stylized figures and geometric patterns, referencing indigenous Philippine motifs and Islamic art influences, reflecting his Tausug heritage.

Imao has been involved in various public art projects, memorial installations, and museum exhibits throughout the Philippines and internationally. Some of his notable works include monuments commemorating historical figures and events, as well as installations promoting peace and unity. He has also worked on film projects, often focusing on social and cultural issues.

His contributions extend beyond artistic creation. He actively engages in cultural preservation efforts and advocates for the recognition and appreciation of Philippine art and culture.
