The Song of Love (1923 film)
The Song of Love is a 1923 American silent historical drama film directed by Chester Franklin and Frances Marion, and starring Norma Talmadge, Joseph Schildkraut, and Arthur Edmund Carewe.
The film is a fictionalized account of the romance between composer Robert Schumann and pianist Clara Wieck. It portrays their initial meeting, the development of their affection despite Clara's father's disapproval, and their eventual marriage. The story culminates in their life together and Schumann's increasing mental instability.
The film was produced by Norma Talmadge Film Corporation and distributed by First National Pictures. It was noted for its elaborate costumes and set designs, intended to capture the historical period. Reviews at the time generally praised Talmadge's performance and the film's visual appeal, although some found the narrative somewhat melodramatic. The Song of Love is now considered a lost film, with no known complete copies surviving.
