Jon King

Jon King is a British musician, best known as the vocalist and primary songwriter of the post-punk band Gang of Four.

King co-founded Gang of Four in Leeds in 1976, along with guitarist Andy Gill, bassist Dave Allen, and drummer Hugo Burnham. The band is known for its angular guitar riffs, politically charged lyrics, and funk-influenced rhythm section. King's distinctive vocal style, often delivered in a detached and declamatory manner, became a signature element of the band's sound.

Gang of Four released several influential albums in the late 1970s and early 1980s, including Entertainment! (1979) and Solid Gold (1981). King's lyrics frequently addressed themes of consumerism, social inequality, and the relationship between individuals and institutions.

While Gang of Four experienced numerous lineup changes over the years, King remained a constant presence in the band until Gill's death in 2020. Following Gill's passing, King announced the band's dissolution.

Beyond his work with Gang of Four, King has been involved in various other musical projects and collaborations. He has also been a vocal commentator on social and political issues.
