Kate Paye
Kate Paye is an American basketball coach and former player. She is currently the head coach of the Stanford Cardinal women's basketball team, a position she assumed in April 2024 after the retirement of longtime head coach Tara VanDerveer.
Prior to becoming head coach, Paye served as an assistant coach at Stanford for 17 seasons across two stints (2007-2016 and 2017-2024). During her time as an assistant, she played a significant role in the Cardinal's success, which included multiple Pac-12 Conference championships and NCAA Final Four appearances. Her coaching responsibilities at Stanford often focused on player development and recruiting.
Paye played college basketball at Stanford, where she was a member of the Cardinal's 1992 national championship team. She earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in education from Stanford. Following her collegiate career, Paye played professionally in the WNBA for the Minnesota Lynx.
Outside of basketball, Paye is also an attorney. She earned a law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law and has worked as a lawyer.
