The Iron Stair (1933 film)
The Iron Stair is a 1933 American pre-Code crime drama film directed by Luis Trenker and starring Loretta Young and George Brent. The film is based on the novel The Iron Stair by Ethel Lina White, previously adapted into the 1920 silent film The Iron Stair.
The story revolves around a young woman named Eleanor (Loretta Young) who becomes unwittingly embroiled in a dangerous situation when she witnesses a crime. She is stalked and pursued by the criminals, leading to suspenseful and dramatic encounters. The film is noted for its thrilling narrative and the performances of its lead actors. Though not a widely remembered classic, it offers a glimpse into the crime genre of early Hollywood cinema and the anxieties of the era. It is considered a "lost film" as no known complete print currently exists; the UCLA Film and Television Archive reportedly possesses only reel one of the film.
