Tente (toy)

Tente is a construction toy system similar to Lego, designed and originally manufactured by EXIN-LINES BROS S.A., a Spanish company. Introduced in 1968, Tente sets consist of interlocking plastic bricks, primarily white with various colors for accessory pieces, used to build models of vehicles, buildings, and other objects.

The key distinguishing feature of Tente bricks compared to Lego bricks is their unique connection system. While Lego uses studs on top that fit into hollow receptacles below, Tente bricks utilize a pin-and-hole system. Each Tente brick has one or more pins on its top surface, which fit into corresponding holes on the underside of other bricks. This system allows for connections at different angles, enabling more complex and versatile construction possibilities than some other brick-based systems.

Over the years, Tente offered a wide range of sets, including models of ships, aircraft, automobiles, and futuristic designs. The system also incorporated electronic components, such as motors and lights, to add functionality to the models. Tente was particularly popular in Spain and other European countries.

Production of Tente bricks ceased for a period, but the brand was later revived, and new sets have been released, maintaining the original pin-and-hole connection system. The brand continues to be recognized for its unique construction capabilities and its historical significance in the world of construction toys.
