Tani (letter)
Tani (თან) is the 20th letter of the Georgian alphabet. It is used to represent the sound /tʰ/, an aspirated voiceless alveolar stop, similar to the "t" in the English word "top".
In the Georgian numbering system, Tani has a numerical value of 300.
Tani's shape, like other letters in the Mkhedruli script, does not have uppercase and lowercase variants. The Mkhedruli script, used in modern Georgian, is unicameral. It derives from the Nuskhuri script, which in turn evolved from the older Asomtavruli script, the latter two being bicameral. Tani in Asomtavruli has a different, more angular appearance than its Mkhedruli counterpart.
The letter is present in many common Georgian words.
