Tambu (album)
Tambu is the ninth studio album by the American rock band Toto, released in May 1995. It marked a reunion of sorts for the band, as it was the first studio album to feature original vocalist David Paich since 1982's Toto IV. It was also the last album to feature drummer Jeff Porcaro, who died during its production. Simon Phillips completed the drumming duties after Porcaro's death.
The album's sound shifted slightly from the band's more pop-oriented work in the late 1980s and early 1990s, incorporating elements of world music and a more progressive rock approach. "I Will Remember," a power ballad sung by Steve Lukather, was a significant single from the album. Other notable tracks include "Gift of Faith" and "The Turning Point."
Tambu received mixed reviews upon release. Some critics praised the band's musicianship and the album's diverse sonic palette, while others found the songwriting inconsistent. Commercially, the album performed better in Europe and Japan than in the United States, where it failed to chart. Despite its mixed reception, Tambu remains a significant album in Toto's discography due to its lineup and the circumstances surrounding its production.
