Streetheart (band)

Streetheart was a Canadian rock band formed in Regina, Saskatchewan, in 1977. They achieved significant popularity in Canada during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The band was known for their hard-rocking sound, catchy melodies, and energetic stage performances.

The original lineup consisted of Kenny Shields (lead vocals), Daryl Gutheil (keyboards), Paul Dean (guitar), Bennie McDonald (bass), and Matt Frenette (drums). Soon after their formation, Paul Dean and Matt Frenette left to form Loverboy, and were replaced by Earl Slick (guitar) and Bob "Herb" Egoff (drums). Streetheart later solidified their classic lineup with John Hannah on guitar and Randy Gabel on drums.

Streetheart released a string of successful albums, including Meanwhile Back in Paris… (1978), Quicksand Shoes (1979), Under Heaven Over Hell (1980), Streetheart (1982), and Dancing With Danger (1983). Their music often featured powerful guitar riffs, driving rhythms, and Kenny Shields' distinctive vocals. Some of their most well-known songs include "Action," "Hollywood," "Look in Your Eyes," "Under My Thumb" (a Rolling Stones cover), and "What Kind of Love Is This."

The band toured extensively across Canada, opening for acts such as Def Leppard, Nazareth, and Saga. Streetheart disbanded in 1984, but reunited for occasional performances and tours in later years. Kenny Shields continued to be the face of the band until his death in 2017. Subsequent incarnations of Streetheart have performed with a rotating cast of musicians paying tribute to the band's legacy.
