Stephen Sanford (polo player)

Stephen Sanford (1899–1977) was an American polo player, heir, and socialite. He was a member of a prominent New York family, the Sanfords, who had made their fortune in the carpet manufacturing business. He is best known for his achievements in the sport of polo during the interwar period.

Sanford played on several successful polo teams, most notably the Meadow Brook team, which dominated American polo for many years. He achieved a handicap of 9 goals, one of the highest ratings attainable in the sport. Sanford was a key figure in the international polo scene and participated in matches around the world, including in England and Argentina.
