St. Casimir Church (Warsaw)

St. Casimir Church, also known as Kościół św. Kazimierza, is a Roman Catholic church located in Warsaw's New Town district, Poland. It is dedicated to Saint Casimir, the patron saint of Poland and Lithuania.

The church was originally founded in the mid-17th century by Queen Marie Louise Gonzaga, the wife of King John II Casimir Vasa, as a votive offering for the birth of a son. The original structure was destroyed during the Deluge (Swedish invasion of Poland).

Rebuilt in a Baroque style, construction commenced under Tylman van Gameren, a Dutch-Polish architect and engineer, and later continued under other architects. The church was heavily damaged during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 and subsequently reconstructed after World War II.

The church features a distinct Baroque facade and a dome. Inside, the church houses artwork, including paintings and sculptures. Its historical significance and architectural style contribute to its importance as a landmark in Warsaw's New Town. Today, St. Casimir Church continues to serve as a place of worship and a significant historical monument.
