Something to Shout About (film)

Something to Shout About is a 1943 American screwball comedy film directed by Gregory Ratoff and starring Don Ameche, Janet Blair, and William Gaxton. The film follows the comedic entanglements that ensue when a woman shoots her husband's former lover in a fit of jealousy, leading to a series of absurd cover-ups and mistaken identities.

The plot centers around theatrical producer Sam Hearn (Don Ameche), who is implicated in the shooting of his former flame. His wife, Sally (Janet Blair), is the shooter, but Sam, desperate to protect her and his reputation, attempts to take the blame himself. This sets off a chain reaction involving lawyers, the police, and various other characters who become embroiled in the increasingly farcical situation.

William Gaxton plays a key role as a lawyer, further complicating matters with his own eccentricities and involvement in the cover-up. The film relies heavily on witty dialogue and fast-paced comedic situations characteristic of the screwball genre.

Something to Shout About features musical numbers, including songs by Cole Porter, adding another layer to its entertainment value. Although not considered a landmark film of its era, it is a representative example of the lighthearted, escapist fare popular during World War II.
