Shape Up (video game)
Shape Up is a fitness video game developed and published by Ubisoft. Released in 2014 for the Xbox One, it utilizes the console's motion-sensing Kinect camera to track players' movements during workout routines.
The game focuses on making exercise fun and engaging through gamification. Instead of a typical fitness regimen, Shape Up presents workouts as mini-games and challenges with colorful visuals and humorous animations. Players earn points and unlock new content as they complete these exercises.
A key element of Shape Up's gameplay is the "Beat Your Best" feature. The game records the player's performance in each exercise and then displays a ghost image of their previous attempt. This encourages players to compete against themselves and improve their scores.
The game offers a variety of workout programs, focusing on different muscle groups and fitness goals. These programs are led by virtual trainers who provide instructions and motivation. Additionally, Shape Up allows players to create custom workout routines based on their individual needs.
While initially requiring the Kinect sensor, later updates to the game enabled support for using a smartphone as a motion tracker, broadening accessibility for players. However, the accuracy and functionality of the smartphone tracking was considered to be inferior to the Kinect experience.
