Severian is the protagonist and unreliable narrator of Gene Wolfe's four-volume science fantasy series, The Book of the New Sun. He is a journeyman torturer belonging to the Guild of Seekers for Truth and Penitence in the fictional city of Nessus, part of the Commonwealth.
