Sam Cowan
Sam Cowan (1901-1964) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a centre-half. He is best known for his long and successful career with Manchester City, where he also served as captain.
Cowan began his career with Dundee Hibernian before moving to Manchester City in 1924. He quickly established himself as a key player in the team, known for his strength, tackling ability, and leadership. Cowan captained Manchester City to their first FA Cup victory in 1934, a significant achievement in the club's history. He also led them to the Football League First Division title in 1937.
He made over 400 appearances for Manchester City before leaving to become player-manager of Stockport County in 1939. He subsequently managed other clubs, including Rochdale and Bury, before retiring from management.
Cowan is remembered as a Manchester City legend and a highly respected figure in Scottish football. His contribution to Manchester City's success during the 1930s cemented his place in the club's history.
