Saliha Sultan (daughter of Mahmud II)

Saliha Sultan (born 1811, died 1843) was an Ottoman princess, the daughter of Sultan Mahmud II and his consort Aşubcan Kadın. She was a sister of Abdulmejid I and an aunt of Abdul Hamid II, Murad V, Mehmed V, and Mehmed VI, all of whom later reigned as Ottoman Sultans.

Details about Saliha Sultan's early life are scarce. She was married in 1834 to Damat Gürcü Halil Rifat Pasha. This marriage, like many Ottoman imperial marriages, served a strategic purpose, solidifying the Sultan's power and alliances.

Saliha Sultan was known for her charitable endeavors. The Saliha Sultan Fountain in Istanbul, located near the Selimiye Barracks, was commissioned by her. The fountain is a testament to her patronage of public works and her desire to leave a lasting legacy.

Her death at a relatively young age, 32, cut short a life of privilege and potential influence. She is buried in the mausoleum of her father, Sultan Mahmud II, in Istanbul. Despite the limited historical record, Saliha Sultan remains a notable figure in Ottoman dynastic history due to her lineage, marriage, and philanthropic activities.
