Sagafjord
The Sagafjord was a Norwegian-American Line (NAL) cruise ship launched in 1965 and retired in 1996. She was known for her classic, elegant design and relatively small size compared to modern cruise ships, catering to a clientele seeking a more intimate and traditional cruising experience. Built by Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerranée in France, the Sagafjord was a transatlantic liner initially, eventually transitioning entirely to cruising.
The ship offered cruises to various destinations, including the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and world cruises. She was renowned for her high level of service and sophisticated atmosphere. After her career with NAL, she was sold and sailed under various names, including "Gripsholm" (for a brief period reviving a classic NAL name), and "Saga Rose." The Sagafjord/Saga Rose was ultimately scrapped in China in 2009. Despite her eventual fate, she remains a fondly remembered vessel from the golden age of cruising.
