SMS Luise
SMS Luise was a German unprotected cruiser of the Gazelle class, built for the Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) in the early 1900s. She was the second member of her class of ten light cruisers. Luise was named after Queen Luise of Prussia.
Luise was built by the AG Vulcan shipyard in Stettin and launched on 29 March 1900. She was commissioned into the fleet on 15 October 1901. The ship was armed with a main battery of ten 10.5 cm (4.1 in) guns and had a top speed of 21.5 knots (39.8 km/h; 24.7 mph).
Luise served in a variety of roles during her career, including service with the fleet, overseas deployments, and use as a training ship. During World War I, she served primarily in the Baltic Sea, participating in operations against the Russian Navy.
Following the end of World War I, Luise was retained by the newly formed Reichsmarine. She was converted into a tender for minesweepers in 1920. The ship served in this capacity until she was stricken from the naval register on 28 March 1935, and subsequently broken up for scrap.
