Blunt (cannabis)
A blunt is a cannabis cigarette made by emptying a cigar of its tobacco and refilling it with cannabis. It derives its name from Phillies Blunt brand cigars, although any emptied cigar or cigarillo can be used.
Construction:
The process typically involves splitting open a cigar, discarding the tobacco filling, and replacing it with ground cannabis. The emptied cigar wrapper is then rolled (or re-rolled) and sealed, often with saliva. Blunts are typically larger and contain more cannabis than a standard joint.
Variations:
- Backwoods Blunt: Specifically made using a Backwoods cigar, known for its rustic and uneven shape and strong flavor.
- Double Blunt: Refers to using two cigar wrappers to create a thicker, more potent blunt.
Consumption and Effects:
Blunts are smoked similarly to joints or cigars. The presence of the tobacco leaf wrapper contributes nicotine, which is absorbed alongside the cannabis, adding a different psychoactive effect compared to smoking cannabis alone. The combination of nicotine and THC can result in a different and potentially more intense high.
Legality:
The legality of blunts depends on the local laws regarding both cannabis and tobacco. Even in jurisdictions where cannabis is legal, public consumption or possession of blunts may still be restricted. The combination of cannabis and tobacco could also be subject to different or additional regulations.
Health Considerations:
Blunts carry the health risks associated with both cannabis and tobacco use. Smoking blunts exposes users to carcinogens and other harmful chemicals found in both cannabis smoke and the cigar wrapper. The nicotine content in the cigar wrapper can also lead to addiction.
