River Ter

The Ter is a river in Catalonia, Spain. It rises in Ulldeter, at an elevation of about 2,200 metres (7,200 ft), in the Pyrenees. The Ter flows generally south and east through the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range, and empties into the Mediterranean Sea near Gola del Ter, close to l'Estartit.

The river is approximately 208 kilometres (129 mi) long and its drainage basin covers an area of about 3,010 square kilometres (1,160 sq mi). Key cities along its course include Ripoll, Manlleu, and Girona. The Ter is an important source of water for the region, supplying water to the metropolitan area of Barcelona via the Ter-Llobregat system.

The river's flow has been significantly altered by dams and diversions, particularly for hydroelectric power generation and agricultural irrigation. This has led to environmental concerns, including reduced flow in some sections and impacts on the river's ecosystem. Efforts are underway to manage the Ter's water resources sustainably, balancing human needs with environmental protection.
