Resurrection (1943 film)
Resurrection is a 1943 Italian drama film directed by Flavio Calzavara. It is based on Leo Tolstoy's 1899 novel of the same name. The film stars Germana Paolieri and Fosco Giachetti. The plot centers on a nobleman, Prince Dimitri Ivanovich Nekhlyudov, who recognizes a woman, Katyusha Maslova, as one he had seduced and abandoned years earlier. She is now on trial for murder, and he is serving on the jury. Overcome with guilt and remorse, Nekhlyudov attempts to atone for his past actions by following her to Siberia, where she is sentenced to exile, and working to secure her freedom. The film explores themes of redemption, social injustice, and the possibility of spiritual renewal. It is considered one of the notable cinematic adaptations of Tolstoy's work.
