Psalm 145

Psalm 145 is the 145th psalm from the Book of Psalms in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). It is a hymn of praise, characterized as an alphabetic acrostic poem, meaning that each verse (or in some cases, pair of verses) begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It is unique among the acrostic psalms in that it is explicitly titled "A Praise of David."

The psalm is generally attributed to King David, although some scholars debate the authorship. Its themes center around the greatness and goodness of God, His steadfast love and faithfulness, and His power and provision for those who trust in Him. The psalm emphasizes God's universal kingship and His care for all of creation.

Notable features of Psalm 145 include its comprehensive portrayal of God's attributes, its focus on God's kingdom as an everlasting kingdom, and its reassurance of God's nearness to those who call upon Him in truth. It is often recited in Jewish prayer services and is frequently used in Christian worship as a hymn of praise and adoration.

The psalm lacks a verse beginning with the Hebrew letter Nun (נ), a feature shared by only a few other acrostic psalms. However, the Septuagint and Dead Sea Scrolls contain an added verse that begins with Nun. This additional verse reads, "Faithful is the Lord in all His words and holy in all His works," which fills the alphabetic gap and is sometimes included in modern translations.
