Poppy (1952 film)
Poppy is a 1952 American comedy film directed by George Marshall and starring Bob Hope and Linda Darnell. The film is a remake of the 1936 film of the same name which starred W.C. Fields.
The story revolves around a con artist, played by Bob Hope, who tries to pass off his daughter, played by Linda Darnell, as a long-lost heiress to a fortune. His scheming takes place against the backdrop of a small town's annual carnival and involves local politics and romantic entanglements. The film features standard slapstick comedy and farcical situations, typical of Bob Hope's filmography. The film's plot hinges on deception, mistaken identity, and the ultimate exposure of the con artist's schemes, which, while initially driven by selfish motives, eventually reveal a degree of affection and protective instinct towards his daughter.
