Polytron (software company)
Polytron Corporation was an American software company, best known for its version control system, Polytron Version Control System (PVCS). Founded in the early 1980s, the company focused on providing tools for software developers, particularly those working in MS-DOS and later Windows environments.
PVCS was one of the early and popular commercial version control systems, offering features such as change history tracking, branching, merging, and access control. It helped teams manage source code and other project files, facilitating collaboration and reducing the risk of errors.
Beyond PVCS, Polytron also developed other software development tools, including librarian utilities and program compilers. These tools aimed to improve developer productivity and software quality.
The company was acquired by Sage Software in 1999. After the acquisition, PVCS continued to be developed and supported under the Sage name. PVCS has since been superseded by other version control systems, such as Git and Subversion.
