Josef Moser (jurist)
Josef Moser (19 November 1942 – 14 June 2024) was an Austrian jurist and politician. He served as the Minister of Justice of Austria from 2017 to 2019 in the Kurz I government.
Born in Vienna, Moser studied law at the University of Vienna, earning his doctorate in 1965. He then pursued a career in the Austrian civil service, holding various positions related to auditing and administration. Prior to his ministerial appointment, he served as President of the Austrian Court of Audit from 2004 to 2016.
As Minister of Justice, Moser oversaw several legislative initiatives, including reforms related to criminal law and judicial procedure. His tenure was marked by a focus on efficiency and transparency within the justice system.
Moser was not affiliated with any political party prior to his appointment as minister. He was generally regarded as an independent expert brought in to lead the Ministry of Justice. He retired from politics after the fall of the Kurz I government in 2019.
