Pezhma (river)
The Pezhma is a river in Vologda Oblast, Russia. It is a left tributary of the Yug River.
Geography
The Pezhma's source is located in the northern part of Vologda Oblast. It flows generally south and southwest through sparsely populated taiga forests. Its confluence with the Yug River is near the village of Kuzino. The river is generally narrow and shallow, with a slow current.
Hydrology
The Pezhma is primarily fed by snowmelt and rainfall. Its highest water levels occur in the spring, during the snowmelt season. The river freezes over in late October or early November and remains frozen until late April or early May.
Economy and Transportation
The Pezhma River is not navigable for commercial traffic. It is used for recreational fishing and kayaking. Historically, it was used for timber rafting. The area surrounding the river is primarily forested and supports logging operations.
