Petra Burka

Petra Burka (born November 17, 1946) is a Czech-Canadian former figure skater, coach, and television commentator. She is the 1965 World Champion, the 1964 Olympic bronze medalist, and a five-time Canadian national champion (1962-1966).

Burka is credited as being the first woman to successfully land a triple Salchow jump in competition. Her innovative and athletic style marked a significant shift in women's figure skating.

After retiring from competitive skating, Burka became a successful coach, training numerous skaters, including Elvis Stojko. She also worked as a figure skating commentator for Canadian television. She was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1965 and the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1976. Her mother, Ellen Burka, was also a renowned figure skating coach.
